"We fought the infection. We survived the apocalypse. And now, we face extinction.." |
Is it an internet? No. It works like an office intranet. You can connect to other computers on the system, but if you wanted to email, say, China or Japan? It wouldn't work. The list of safehouses that we have up are the only places presently reachable. Is it monitored? Yes. Though most characters wouldn't know this, the intranet system is monitored by the government. So, if your character was to say "I've been bitten," on the server, they would probably be tracked down and put into quarantine. How do I know who I'm talking to? Basically, when the man who set up the intranet went from safehouse-to-safehouse, he collected the names of each person who told him they wished to use the intranet. It's entirely possible that your character can have listed a false name. For example, hypothetically, if Evan Marchand told them that his name was Samuel Leavitt, there would be absolutely no way to prove that he was lying. So, he would be listed in the system as Samuel.Leavitt@nyc2018.net. That would be his log in information and that would be how he showed up on the forum, so no one – aside from Evan himself and those who know him personally – would know who he really was. Each name put on this list, real or not, is compiled into a directory, accessible through the intranet. If you feel so inclined, you can put your character’s email in your contact post and use that as an inbox as well. But how do the posts appear to characters? Something like this, except more modernized. However, before each message the web address (FirstnameLastname@nyc2018.net) would appear. Bolded and italicized text would still indicate emphases, but I have another question, but it's not here. You can always email us mods at immunemod@gmail.com or leave us a comment in the dropbox. We'd be more than happy to answer any questions. |
